The perfect surfboard quiver for your trip to the Maldives

Planning a trip to the Maldives?

Picking the right boards can be tricky, especially if this is your first time to this incredible destination.

So which boards should I pack for my trip? After spending a full year in the Maldives as a surf guide, this was the most common question my guests would ask prior to arrival. My answer would always go a bit something like this '“check the forecast a week out, if it looks like its going to be solid then bring a gun, if there won’t be any big pulses of swell during your trip then your regular short board and a fun board is more than enough”. So the bottom line is, DON’T OVER-PACK!

Bring your go-to board you normally surf at home, I always love to have an old faithful in the board bag. If this happens to be your regular shortboard then pack a fun board as well. Whether that be your Hypto Krypto by Haydenshapes or your Mini Twin from DHD. It’s rare that you need a big board or gun in the Maldives. Yes it gets solid and the swell can pack a punch, but it’s still a lot more mellow than the Mentawai’s as the swell has further to travel.

If I can avoid travelling with more than two boards I do it at all cost, even running the risk of potentially being under-gunned (which has still never happened). A double board bag is perfect, it is manageable to travel with and in addition to your two boards there is still room for your clothes.
