Surf at Anantara Uluwatu

Uluwatu

World famous, ultra-consistent ‘Ulu’s’ is the focal point of Balinese surfing. This is mainly thanks to its ability to handle any sized swell and spread the biggest of crowds across a wide playing field of reef. It is a sectioning wave, offering many barrels along the way.

Main Peak offers an open face with hollow pockets directly in front of the famous cave. Further down the point is Racetracks, which twists and bends in an ever-increasing race against the falling curtain. This fast wave can be great fun when it works and grinds down the point.

Padang Padang

Padang Padang is a mechanical barrel machine and all-round epic wave, up there with the best lefts on the planet. It needs major swells to work, as it is tucked into the peninsula below the cliffs where the SE trades blow dead offshore.

The short 50m ride starts with a pitching lip take off that sets up into a perfectly cylindrical wall, tempting experts to stand on the tail and see how deep they can push it. Barrel intensity increases as it draws more water off the shallow coral and forces a speed run to the exit before the wave runs
out of water. This wave is for the more advanced surfer.

Impossibles

Directly in front of Anantara Uluwatu is Impossibles. This wave becomes more manageable when the swell is medium to large. Long-period swell sweeps past Ulu’s and Padang on to this long coral reef at low tide.

There are usually three sections, separated by straight bits of reef. So, pick a peak and make that your take off spot. This wave can be surfed on all tides, but the lower it is the fast it gets. The reef is sharp, so if you plan to surf it on to a low tide, reef booties are recommended for the walk in.

Bingin

Bingin is best described as short, sharp and shallow. The tight take off zone at the end of the shelf beneath the impressive Bukit cliffs is steep, with lots of barrels on offer. This wave can be surfed on all tides, but it can get a bit shallow on the low.

Accomodations

Anantara Uluwatu boasts 72 ocean view suites, private pool villas and penthouses. They are all designed with a contemporary Balinese touch and are based in the heart of Bali's surfing mecca. Rooms are filled with natural light and reveal priceless views.

Great surfing beach, wonderful view

“Our hotel location was great and there were swimmable beaches nearby, not to mention perfect waves out the front. Service at this hotel was great when not too busy. The same goes with the pool and restaurant service.”

Incredible surf, amazing 5 star resort

“Anantara was amazing. The staff, our room,  the food, and of course the surf right out front at Impossibles was stacked up on the horizon the whole time we were there.  WaveCollective hit the mark on our trip.”
